Terrainiac

Grade: A-

"The Terrainiac has to be one of the coolest land (and water!) RCs of the year. It's very unique and very versatile. It's very fast on land, and a great deal to include a rechargable battery and charger with the package. I only wish the front wheels were just a little larger so it could handle rougher terrain. Overall, though, I really like it! "

Air Hogs Mini Storm Launcher

Grade: B+

"The Mini Storm Launcher is a cool toy, way better than the larger original. It's easy to fly and can be operated in a reasonable space like a medium-sized park (unlike the big one that seems to need a football field). I really appreciate not having to buy a battery & charger for it, making the $39 street price very reasonable. I wish it could go on water, especially since it looks like a racing boat! I would also prefer if it didn't need as much of a runway to get airborne, but I don't mind hand-launching it when I need to.

All in all, a big improvement in a small package, and I definitely enjoyed flying it. "

Air Hogs Aero Ace

Grade: A+

"The Air Hogs Aero Ace changed the world of RC aircraft, really starting an entirely new genre and bringing a hobby that used to be reserved for skilled pilots truly to the masses. For $30 plus the cost of six AA batteries, it's a deal that's difficult to beat. The plane is durable (I forgot to mention that I've crashed into all sorts of things and suffered no damage!), really easy to fly, and convenient. I highly recommend it! "

FlyTech Dragonfly review (by WowWee)

Grade: A

If you haven't seen this before, it's not a joke. It's an actual radio-controlled, man-made dragonfly. It flies by flapping its wings rhythmically, just like the real thing! Charges from the controller and has different modes & configurations to grow with you as does your level of practice.

Silverlit Palm-Z micro indoor plane

Grade: A

The Palm-Z is the real thing! This tiny plane is about 8" long & wide and weighs next to nothing, but it achieves the holy grail in micro RC plane performance -- it flies indoors, even in a space as small as a regular living room! Silverlit has a real winner here and I'm happy to have been able to test it.

Tyco RC N.S.E.C.T. robot

Grade: C+

"What can I say? This is a very interesting machine the likes of which you won't soon again see in the RC aisle at the local toy store. The motion is very robotic and menacing, and the missile launcher is a cool feature. However, the whole thing is heavy, extremely noisy, and also expensive (especially after you buy the batteries & charger needed to run). I wouldn't tell anyone who's really, really interested in it to not buy it, but I personally don't feel like it's worth the money. "

Nikko Nissan Skyline Fast & The Furious RC drift car

Grade: B
"Nikko has made another good car here, and it's a good deal to come with all of the batteries you need, plus a charger. It also looks amazing, even sitting still. Speed is modest, but not too shabby, and it handles well with regular tires. However, a drifter it is not. If you want to go drifting in 1/10th scale, this is definitely not the car for you. If you want a great-looking general-purpose street-driving RC car that doesn't cost a lot, you're in luck. "

Tomy Aerosoarer micro RC plane

The plane sold by Spin Master as the Air Hogs Aerosoar in North America was originally marketed (and still is in the rest of the world) by Tomitech as the Tomy Aerosoarer.

Air Hogs Aerosoar micro indoor plane

Grade: F
"Flying the Air Hogs Aerosoar was no fun, no fun at all. I paid for something that I could fly around the room, but I ended up with something that wasn't even as fun as a free-flight glider. Very, very disappointing. "

New Bright Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 1/28th scale

Grade: F

"This car really disappointed me, even as an RC for kids as young as 4 years old. I think it's very fast at top speed, but it would be much better if it was geared for more power and less speed, so it could drive on carpet. The steering is also much too weak. I can't recommend this car or its Chevy Silverado twin to anyone. "

Nikko Toyota FTX RC Monster Truck

Grade: A-
This new truck platform is great. The light weight, selectable gears and supple suspension make it versatile and capable, topping off a tough, but clean look. The fact that it includes everything you need to run is a real convenience, too. All I could ask for would be even more speed if it was possible, but overall, Nikko has a winner here.

Fast Lane RC B-Furious Buggy

Grade: C+

The B-Furious is a nice concept, with customizability and pretty good features (4WD, independent suspension). However, it's pretty underpowered and the use of AA batteries has you needing new ones every 20 to 30 minutes. If you think you've got to get it because it looks cool, I won't tell you not to, but otherwise, it's not hard to pass this car up.

Fast Lane RC Hummer H1 1/6th Scale

Grade: B+

I'm really satisfied with this Fast Lane Hummer. It looks great and has a good set of features. A little more speed would be nice, but its ability to truly go offroad and tackle unprepared makes up for this. I'm thinking about keeping this one and making a project out of it!

NKOK Nintendo Mario Kart (basic)

Grade: F

"What gives? I have to wonder whether this little thing will drive right and consistently anywhere other than the office of the designer who created it. I think it needs a very "low-pile" (short), hard, dense carpet that's not too bumpy to work properly. If you don't have this perfect surface, you're going to be out of luck just like I was, I fear. I really wanted to give this vehicle at least a D because it looks so cool, but it costs too much to be worth buying just to set it on a shelf to look at."

Fast Lane Super Cars Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII 1/32 scale

Grade: A+

"Well, there you have it. What's not to like about this car? For the price, it's an amazing deal. The newer ones even come with a set of drifting tires, and have selectable radio channels so you can run up to 6 at a time. If you don't like the Mitsubishi Evo body, there are lots of other styles, from SUVs to classic muscle cars. I couldn't be happier with this purchase. " Read more...

Fast and the Furious Mazda Veilside RX7 1/22nd scale

Grade: B-

"Not bad for $15, but not outstanding either. I do like being able to change the tires, and the Prof's discovery of interchangable parts from the Pro Class cars is excellent. The car looks good and performs decently. The downside is, again, the funky controller. If you really like the car from the movie and want an RC version, by all means, get one! If you have a finer taste for performance & handling, though, you might want to look at a Radio Shack XMOD car, or perhaps something just a little larger. " Read more...

Nikko Pro Class Mini Cooper 1/24th scale

Grade: A-

"It's amazing what a difference just one upgrade can make. The only thing holding this car back now is the lame controller. Combine the power of the Sprint motor with the really nice styling and reasonable price, and it gets my stamp of approval. "

Air Hogs Apache Havoc Micro Helicopter

Grade: A

"Wow. Congratulations, Spin Master. The Havoc was good, really good, and innovative, but it looked like a flying block of shaped styrofoam. The Apache Havoc retains all of the positive qualities of the original, but adds a really cool, realistic external appearance that really completes it properly. This is a winner! "

Syma Lama V3 2ch helicopter

Grade: B

"I think this is a good helicopter for the money. The most important thing to consider before you think about buying one, though, is whether you have enough space to fly it. You want clear, unobstructed space all around so that you have enough room to maneuver and not get caught in its own wind. Because of its size and the fast-spinning blades, it should not be operated by or around small children, and you should keep pets away also. The good thing is, if it does crash badly, the blades can be replaced."
